One of my favorite dance and singing groups is the Pussycat Dolls. Nicole Scherzinger is one of my favorite Hapa celebrities. Her voice is angelic. You will want to listen to her rendition of Gershwin’s Summertime. I feel she has been completely underrated despite the fact that her talent stands the test of time.
One of the most memorable movies of all times and although not technically a “Bollywood” type movie (not a musical, although there is a dance scene during the credits) is Slumdog Millionaire. Slumdog Millionaire was a sleeper hit from over a decade ago. The theme song, Jai Ho (You Are My Destiny) features the Pussycat Dolls with frontrunner Nicole Scherzinger’s chilling soprano voice and A.R. Rahman.
Although, I do not perform “Bollywood,” I have been known to include tribal fusion with Bollywood inspired movements. For Indian audiences who request Belly Dance performances, my set is definitely Middle Eastern in routes. I do like to throw in audience participation and for that segment, I utilize the epic song Jai Ho.
Jai Ho is performed as a line dance. A line dance is a party dance with repetitive dance phrases. There are cue movements that change the direction of the dance, usually a quarter turn to face a different facing. When you book a Belly Dance performance with me, I will be sure to share that choreography and teach the whole party how to dance to Jai Ho.
